Come out to an Artful Evening in Montclair! And, it’s all free! Thursday, November 6
The Gallery at Berkshire Hathaway in Montclair has invited me to show a different side of my work. The show is called CLOSE UP, and it is quite a departure from my portraiture. In the exhibition, I am presenting a series of artworks that takes small natural and manufactured objects and places them into the photography studio environment. The tiny objects, when viewed large, become something else. Sweet gum seed stems take on dancerly gestures, bicycle chain links become industrial wrecks, acorns mimic the softness of a body.
I’d like to invite you to the Opening Reception: Thursday, November 6 from 5 – 9 pm, with light snacks from Noches de Colombia Montclair and wine, and music by Moment’s Notice
The Gallery is at 695 Bloomfield Avenue, Montclair, at the corner of Bell Street, next to Whole Foods. The show will be up on display at the Gallery throughout November and December 2014, in case you can’t make it to the opening.
PLUS, across the street, the same evening, is FIRST THURSDAY at the Montclair Art Museum (Free admission also).
Sunday was a beautiful fall day to be in the woods. A great day for a 4 mile hike to Terrace Pond In West Milford, NJ within Wawayanda State Park. Sunny, cool, no bugs, no snakes, no bears…just wondrous fall foliage and crisp, autumnal air.
The New York-New Jersey Trail Conference has an excellent trail description for this journey, so be sure to give their site a perusal before heading out on the trail yourself! Find it HERE.
Looking for a quirky yet informative video tour of this hike? Check out my Studio Manager, Krysti Sabins‘, take on this intriguing trek in her nature and hiking series Unboring Exploring! The video even features an interview with a trail maintainer from the NYNJTC who is more than happy to lend a hand to preserving one of New Jersey’s prime hiking locales.
Every year I photograph the graduating seniors from Montclair Kimberley Academy, one of the great independent schools in New Jersey. I always have a blast taking their portraits: they are charming, funny, and creative. The Class of 2015 is no exception. This year the school is starting construction of their new learning center, so the usual place where I take the photos was suddenly off limits! What to do! Well, we moved over to the grounds of the headmaster’s house, directly adjacent to the gymnasium and there were suddenly all sorts of new backgrounds, textures, walkways, and landscaping to work with. This year’s yearbook will have a look all of its own!
