Photographing a leaf

Who does’t love the fall in the northeast? Who does’t love autumn leaves? I gave myself an assignment this morning to do a portrait of a leaf!

I placed a craggy leaf on a piece of plexiglass. This way I could suspend the leaf over the wooden floor without having to hold it. I then set my aperture to throw the floor slightly out of focus, while maintaining the leaf sharp.

I used the sun streaming through the window to give me a mixture of light and dark bands and composed the photograph to make the bands diagonal.

A portrait of the season.
