What a perfect autumn day! Silas Condit Park in Kinnelon, New Jersey, is one of the jewels within the Morris County Park System. Acres of trees, lakes and glacial boulders allowed me to make wonderful portraits of the Elder family.
I positioned parents Todd and Cheryl on the side of the granite ridge line across from son, Stuart. I moved back 20 feet away and framed the top of the photograph with the overhanging leaves of a nearby tree and let the trees on the hillside form the sides of the photograph. Cheryl told me later that she “loved the feel of the portraits and how I was able to get her son to relax.”
The shot of them walking through the woods is, for me, the epitome of those cool, sunny fall days in a forest carpeted with leaves.
