Bradley Cooper’s movie Maestro is a bio-pic about composer and conductor Leonard Bernstein (1918-1990), a towering figure in American cultural history. I found the movie to be uneven, but with great cinemaphotography, amazing makeup and non-stop cigarette smoking. I don’t want to give anything away, but the movie was mostly about his personal life and not about his impact on music, theatre and culture.

I had an assignment for Lord & Taylor at their flagship department store in New York to photograph Bernstein when he attended a gala honoring author, Lillian Hellman in 1977.
