World Photography Day at the New Jersey Shore

August 19 is World Photography Day, and in honor of the occasion I am sharing a selection of favorite portraits from my recent stay at what we New Jerseyans proudly call THE SHORE. This summer I spent a week in the seaside town of Beach Haven on Long Beach Island, one of New Jersey’s most beloved coastal destinations.

Portraits from Beach Haven, Long Beach Island

During my time in Beach Haven, Long Beach Island, I photographed seven close friends who generously agreed to be my subjects. All portraits were taken using my 70 year old Rolleiflex camera, a process that felt especially fitting for World Photography Day. The quiet streets and classic shore atmosphere of Beach Haven created an ideal setting for thoughtful, unhurried photography.

Just a Block from the Beach

You may notice that these images show very little sand and no ocean views. While the beach does not appear in the photographs, the beautiful Beach Haven shoreline on Long Beach Island was just a block away, influencing the light, mood, and spirit of every image.

These portraits celebrate friendship, photography, and the timeless charm of Beach Haven on Long Beach Island.
